Builders are finished – we have a nursery!

In an unexpected burst of efficiency, both the carpenters and decorators finished their jobs in record time! I think being pregnant really helped – they both seemed to feel bad at turning the house into a tip, and so worked faster than normal for me 🙂

The decorators worked for 10 hours on Saturday to finish the nursery and downstairs bedroom – and as soon as they put up the Mamas and Papas freeze, and we added the lampshade and curtains, we suddenly had a baby room. Here are some snaps of it finished before we filled it with clutter!

And then this morning, we started filling up the space with all the baby things we’ve bought over the past few weeks – that cupboard is going to come in really handy! The cot, drawers and a comfy chair arrive on Thursday – and then we’ll be pretty much organised. Good timing – Baby Bob’s due to arrive a month today! Here are some photos of the nursery when full of our purchases!

Progress in the house

Well – the carpenters have been in for a couple of days and are making great progress.

The downstairs bedroom now has a door that will actually shut (!) and a much smaller built in cupboard to hide the gas meter.

The cupboard under the stairs swings and shuts (rather than having to be lifted into place).

We have new, much more modern glass panels above the doors upstairs and at last, the cupboard in the nursery is shelved and can actually be used!

I think they’ll be done on Tuesday, at which point the decorator moves in to make things look pretty!

Belongings stacked up in our bedroom

We have shelves!

Getting the house ready

With Rome out of the way, and no more house guests booked in – we had no more excuses! It’s time to get the house ready for Bob. Cue more builders…

We gave away our old spare room furniture ready for the upstairs bedroom to become a proper nursery. New furniture is on order, but first we’ve got carpenters in sorting out cupboards, shelves and doors and then a decorator to freshen things up a bit. And downstairs, we’re re-doing the study to become a proper guest bedroom.

So once more, our house is a bombsite with our belongings stacked up in every spare corner! Plus, we’re gradually gathering nappies, baby stuff, pram etc, so we’re rapidly running out of space. Hopefully it’ll all be over in a couple of weeks – but here are a couple of pictures of the nursery before the builders got to work and the beginnings of our stash of baby stuff…

Babymoon in Rome

So we decided to take a couple of days off and escape on our final holiday as a couple before Bob arrives. We picked Rome – somewhere we’ve always wanted to go. We could perhaps have chosen better given it was July and Rome was experiencing a bit of a heatwave. 40 degrees wasn’t ideal when 7 months pregnant!

But we stuck in there, and managed to have a great time, fitting in lots of Roman ruins, the Vatican, some aquaducts, plenty of ice cream and pasta – and a fair bit of relaxing in our air conditioned room!

Wonder where our next holiday will be! Somewhere a little closer to home I expect!

Baby Agar at 20 weeks

Here’s Baby Agar at the 20 week scan – we’re still trying to figure out whose nose he will inherit! He was pretty uncooperative at revealing his gender, but after a bit of prodding, we saw clearly that “Kate” was actually “Bob”!

And we even got a few glimpses of Bob in 4D – see if you can figure this one out!
